Dog House Megaways Review

Both Dog House and Megaways are popular in igaming industry, and here is where two giants met. First original version of Dog House was announced in 2019 and is still popular in all online casinos worldwide. From the other side first Megaways slot was announced by Big Time Gaming in 2016, so both of the mechanics are well known and loved by players. There are many Megaways slots in casinos, like Madame Destiny Megaways and many others, but Dog House one is for sure the most popular here.

So what we have, 6 reels instead of 5, and 2 to 7 symbols instead of 3 in the original and multihold versions. Paylines here are functioning as per Megaways mechanic, and the total number of mega “ways” to pay the player is written in the placeholder at the top of the gaming screen. You always see how many possible win configurations are available based on current reels size. The maximum number is 117649 ways (aka winning lines) and is calculated by number of reels multiplied by maximum number of symbols on each.

Dog House Megaways vs other versions

Here is a list of main differences between Megaways version and other Dog House theme slots. It is important to notice that wherever the difference is, Dog House Megaways offers the better numbers, functionality to the player, it is definitely worth of upgrade. Lets have a look through:

Here is what I see in above:

  • Max win size is bigger than in any other version
  • RTP value is the best across whole game series
  • There are two options for Wilds behavior, Raining is more volatile, Sticky is more classic. I prefer Multihold mechanics here
  • Scatters on the main screen don’t pay, not a tragedy
  • No free spins retriggering, this is sad

I won’t recommend comparing Dog House Megaways to the original game, as the difference is not only in features, they are games of different generations. But against Multihold one it is worth of trying both. From one side Multihold offers 4 matrices and retriggering free spins, which I love, from the other side Megaways slots are one love.

Max Win

In the rules of the game max win isn’t defined, so it fully depends on your luck. In their materials Pragmatic Play promotes this version of Dog House to offer winnings over 12000x bet. The downside here is that newer Dog or Alive version Max bet is higher, so eventually the total max pay for high rollers won’t be the highest across all the versions.

Bonus Buy

Megaways Dog House version allows player to buy the Bonus Feature and instantly try the selection of two possible ways to play it:

  • With Sticky Wilds
  • With Raining Wilds

The numbers of free spins varies on the number of Scatters hit before entering the rounds. The total number of free spins granted changes as follows:

Sticky WildsRaining Wilds
3 Scatters7 Free Spins, 2 to 7 Wilds15 Free Spins, up to 6 Wilds
4 Scatters12 Free Spins, 2 to 7 Wilds18 Free Spins, up to 6 Wilds
5 Scatters15 Free Spins, 2 to 7 Wilds25 Free Spins, up to 6 Wilds
6 Scatters20 Free Spins, 3 to 7 Wilds30 Free Spins, up to 6 Wilds

Select the version you like more, anyway RTP is gonna be same, so it is under particular player preference. Sticky Wilds offer bigger wins when stacking, but it is relatively harder to land them, while Raining wilds offer more free spins to try. I beleive Raining ones are less volatile, so if bankroll size allows to play risky, I would go for Sticky ones.

The Dog House Megaways Verdict and Alternatives

In my opinion this is one of the two best version of the legendary Dog House slots, and it is definitely worth playing. Megaways mechanics are well adopted in the casinos making the gameplay more dynamic, exciting, offering more ways to win, after classic Dog House 20 paylines that everyone is familiar with. Read our reviews for other Dog House game series and select the one that suits you the best, I personally prefer Multihold and Megaways Dog House versions over others.
